Greenhouse Kitchen Garden Ideas

During the past 10 years it seems that everyone was buying a home. Whether a homebuyer could afford a home or not didn’t seem to matter. At the same time, organic produce became popular, if costly. Growing their own became cost effective, and fun. Inviting friends over to show off not their cooking skills but their gardening skills became the norm.

As the economy deteriorated, many of these homeowners found that growing their own produce took some of the pressure off their grocery budget. Fruits and vegetables from their own land was a way. Some more ambitious folks even grew enough to sell a portion of their harvest.

The kitchen garden has once again become fashionable. Whether a full blown garden complete with automatic systems or just a few herbs sprinkled amongst the flowers, it seems everyone is growing some type of edible.

For those with children, gardening has become a family affair. Children take to gardening in a very special way. Perhaps it’s seeing the new life break free, perhaps it’s the sense of accomplishment. Hands in the dirt, waiting and watching for the first sign of life, kids get very wrapped up on the entire process.

A greenhouse will open up a whole new gardening experience for you. hothouses are sometimes attached to the side of the home within easy reach of the kitchen. Your greenhouse may be made of glass, polycarbonate or just plastic. Hobby greenhouses come in everything from tiny portables to large and permanent. You can start seeds inside your greenhouse then transplant outside, or keep some inside the greenhouse until they are ready to harvest. You can grown your favorite vegetable outdoors during the summer months and in a greenhouse in winter. I grow herbs in a greenhouse to keep snails out. Rosemary, lavendar and thyme will send them slithering away.. Lettuce is very tolerant of cold weather (as long as it isn’t freezing) so can usually be grown most of the year. The combinations of where, how and what you plant are endless and you will develop your own preferences.

Fresh veggies, fruits and herbs taste like nothing else! Corn newly plucked still full of sugar or a crisp fragrant snap bean crunch on your tongue. There are so many varieties of each type of veggie that you can experiment endlessly. Keeping track of which are your favorites is impossible without a notebook or journal..

Hydrophnic growing may be something you want to try. Hydroponics will give you a different gardening experience. There are some people who feel hydroponic gardening is the best way to grow their produce.

If you’re a spicy food lover, try planting a variety of hot chili peppers. They are wonderful in Mexican and Spanish cuisine. Are you a salad aficionado? You might want to plant a garden just for salad. You are limited only by your imagination.

Think about growing a variety of herbs, drying them and making wreathes. Another way to earn money with your greenhouse is to start your seeds early then sell the tiny seedlings to others who have to wait for the frost to pass before beginning their garden. There are many ways to make your gardening hobby become a small business.

Buy a greenhouse after you have done your research. You can add on to most greenhouses to make them larger. As you fall more in love with greenhouse gardening you may run out of space.
